I’ve been making trivets and wall plaques for a while. I’m almost done with my BIG machine for engraving large signs and 4×4 or 6×8 posts. I took a break from that and tried going for finer detail with a .3mm carbide bit.
I decided on a Garfield image since I like him and I know someone at Pratt who would probably want the finished plaque.
I grabbed a scrap off the shelf and set it to work.
These pieces lie pretty flat. I probably should have clamped both sides but it didnt chatter so I got lcuky.
Even his tail came out pretty sharp.
And its finally done….
for finishing I use dollar store carburetor cleaner and flat black paint.
A quick clean and paint job just covering the whole thing in black then wiping off the excess paint.
Then a swipe with some WD40 to remove the rest of the waste surface paint and give it a little shine….
And lastly a trip to the band saw and belt sander….
This looks great! I would love to see how a vector graphic would look. Perhaps I could use one of my characters as a test? 😀
Sure, I even have a small machine downstairs we could try it on.
What size where you thinking of?
