I’ve had several different Real Power Probes over the years but they stay in the garage. I wanted to keep one my desk in the house for quick tests. I swapped the battery clips for banana plugs….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I quickly was reminded of that old saying “You get what you pay for”. It this case maybe about $15 worth of parts. Minor complaint was that the led work light flickered. I found out only one lead was soldered to the pcb. Major complaint was the voltmeter only read the input voltage at the battery but not at the test point. I figured I could move the voltmeter input wire over to the tip, a little scrape here and there…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It worked ok but it offset the led centering so I had to add a small pullup resistor to offset the meters input resistance…. I used the + connection of the extra led holes….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I used a decade box to center up the tip voltage again…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another thing that bothered me was the PTC was right against the 7Seg LED pins so I trimmed the pins and put a piece of foam tape under there<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It works well enough but the voltmeter shows 1\/2 vcc when the input is floating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You want good buy the power probe. I love mine. If you want a cheap power cable to test bulbs and motors on the bench this is fine……<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
