{"id":1346,"date":"2018-01-18T19:24:03","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T05:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commons.pratt.edu\/open-source\/?p=961"},"modified":"2018-01-18T19:24:03","modified_gmt":"2018-01-18T05:24:03","slug":"racing-sim-outgauge-to-real-dashboard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kornequipped.com\/blog\/?p=1346","title":{"rendered":"Racing Sim OutGauge to Real Dashboard"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At one of our Albert Wisner Public Library Makers Meetings Roberto brought these great flight sim consoles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was obsessed with building something like this for a racing simulator likeDirt Rally or LFS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4254.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4253.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So when my sons Chevy died I stripped a bunch of parts from the interior before I sent it off to the junk yard&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4630.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And a few from the exterior I could sell on ebay..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4635.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4647.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A quick test with a signal generator and the gauges seem to work fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4659.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>PWM @ 10 hz makes the temperature gauge happy while the MPH and RPM respond nicely to square waves&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4663.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4664.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So heres a bunch of rusty parts from the dash frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4683.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A little flat black paint and they look much better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4684.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4686.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The dash itself is not too bad but I have to remove the passenger side air bag&nbsp; and trim it along the left edge of the airbag opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will be a single seater driving cockpit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4956.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The main frame got a paint job too but I have to trim that to match the dash cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4957.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there is this&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/OutGauge\/IMG_4958.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At one of our Albert Wisner Public Library Makers Meetings Roberto brought these great flight sim consoles.
