{"id":1316,"date":"2016-02-18T05:15:05","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T15:15:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commons.pratt.edu\/open-source\/?p=862"},"modified":"2016-02-18T05:15:05","modified_gmt":"2016-02-17T15:15:05","slug":"a-muffler-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kornequipped.com\/blog\/?p=1316","title":{"rendered":"A Muffler Story"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Just when you think you have a free minute and might get to work on something your cars muffler decides to make some noise&#8230;..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally I wouldn&#8217;t rush but my inspection was due in February so I had to swap it. $100 for a factory muffler or $30 for a Thrush Turbo.&nbsp; That&#8217;s a simple choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First I had to get the old one out. It was halfway out already so no problem. then I decided to save the factory flange since in was in good shape.. the Thrush is half the length so I&#8217;d need a little extra pipe.&nbsp; Simple answer was to take a sawszall and chop the muffler up. I know the inlet pipe goes all the way across<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/muffler\/IMG_1132.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That looks like enough extra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/muffler\/IMG_1135.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To get it out I grabbed the plasma cutter and went to work. I left a bit of space for safety<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/muffler\/IMG_1137.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Trimming the final scrap was don wiht the torch parallel to the pipe so it wouldn&#8217;t gouge it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/muffler\/IMG_1138.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Scraps back on the junk pile on the trailer. Just waiting for a trip to the dumps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/muffler\/IMG_1139.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course before I would go to Advance Auto and buy that muffler I checked my attic and found a factory style fuller with all the right dimensions but no hangar or flange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All that work saving the extra pipe for naught.&nbsp; I ended up chopping down to 4 inches anyway<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/muffler\/IMG_1140.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>looks like factory<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/es.pratt.edu\/Commons\/Images\/muffler\/IMG_1141.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I quickly cut off the old hangar and welded it to he new muffler.
